Today was… different. It started like any other day, but the more I think about it, the stranger it seems. I’m not sure if I’m just paying more attention now or if things are really becoming weirder around me. It feels like there’s something beneath the surface of everyday life—something just out of reach.
I went to my usual coffee shop this morning, and as I sat there waiting for my order, I watched the barista, Claire, work. There were at least five people ahead of me, and she didn’t seem stressed at all. I swear, she made those drinks in record time, like her hands moved too fast to follow. I’ve seen her do this before, but today it really stood out to me. I don’t know if it’s just practice or… something else.
Later, I headed to the park to clear my head. I usually walk through the same paths, watch people, and enjoy the quiet. There was a group of kids playing, running around with a kite, which isn’t unusual. But there was no wind today, none at all. Still, that kite stayed up, flying perfectly, as if it had a life of its own. There was this little girl standing apart from the others, holding her hand up like she was controlling it. When she noticed me looking, she quickly put her hand down, and the kite started to fall. Coincidence? Maybe. But I don’t know.
On my way back, I passed Mrs. Liang’s flower shop. She waved at me like she always does, but something about the flowers caught my eye. The roses looked too perfect. I mean, they were flawless—not a single petal out of place, not a hint of wilting. It’s like they were in a state of perfect bloom. I didn’t think too much of it until she told me she’d grown them overnight. Overnight? That’s impossible, right? She just laughed when I mentioned it, saying, “Mother Nature can be kind when she wants to.”
The weirdest thing, though, happened when I got home. My phone was dead, and my charger was nowhere to be found. I asked my neighbor Eli if I could borrow his, but he just grinned and said, “No need.” He placed his hand on my phone, and it turned on instantly. No charger, no cables—just his hand. I asked him how he did it, and he shrugged, saying it was just a trick. But what kind of trick does that?
I’m starting to see things differently now. It’s like I’ve stumbled upon this hidden world where people are… different. Not in a bad way, though. They go about their lives like everyone else, but there’s something magical about it all. It’s subtle, and you’d miss it if you weren’t paying attention. But once you start noticing, it’s hard to stop. I don’t think I’m ready to ask outright what’s going on—I kind of like the mystery. But I can’t help wondering just how many others like Eli, Claire, and Mrs. Liang are out there, quietly living extraordinary lives while the rest of us go about our day without a clue.
I’ll keep watching. Maybe tomorrow I’ll see something new. Or maybe I’ll just enjoy the day and let the wonders unfold on their own.
