Today was one of those days where everything felt both normal and surreal at the same time. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve started paying more attention to the small details, but once you notice them, you can’t unsee them.
I grabbed coffee this morning at the usual spot. There’s this barista, Claire—she’s been working there for months, but I only recently started noticing something odd. She never seems to have any trouble keeping up with the rush, even during the busiest hours. It’s like her hands move faster than anyone else’s, and the drinks just appear in front of you, perfectly made. Today, I asked her how she manages it. She smiled but didn’t answer, just handed me my latte with a wink. I’m starting to think she might be more than just quick on her feet.
After that, I headed to the park. It’s my usual spot to clear my head, but today was different. There was a group of kids playing with a kite. Nothing unusual, except for the fact that the wind wasn’t blowing at all. Yet the kite stayed high in the sky, perfectly controlled. One of the kids—a little girl—stood apart from the others, her hand raised slightly. I swear, the moment she let her hand drop, the kite slowly began to descend. She must’ve noticed me watching, because she giggled and quickly ran back to her friends.
Walking back home, I passed by Mr. Nakamura’s garden. He’s this older man, quiet but friendly. I’ve seen him prune his plants almost every day, but today something caught my eye. His plants…they’re too perfect. Every leaf, every petal seems to grow exactly as it should. No spots, no browning, no wilting. When I stopped to compliment him on the garden, he just gave me this cryptic smile and said, “Nature takes care of itself, but sometimes, it helps to give it a little nudge.”
That’s not the strangest thing that happened today, though. When I got home, my phone had died, so I asked my neighbor, Eli, to borrow his charger. He laughed and said he didn’t need one. At first, I thought he was joking, but he placed his hand on my phone, and it instantly powered up. I asked him how he did that, and he shrugged it off, saying it was just a “trick.” But no one can just charge a phone with their hand. Right?
I don’t know why, but lately, it feels like everyone around me has a secret. The strange thing is, none of it feels threatening or dangerous. It’s like they’re all just…living. They’re using these abilities in such subtle, everyday ways, like it’s no big deal. It’s fascinating, really. There’s magic all around me, but it’s woven into the fabric of normal life so seamlessly that most people don’t even notice.
I’m not sure what to make of it all yet. I kind of want to ask more questions, but at the same time, it’s fun just watching and figuring things out as I go. There’s something peaceful about the way these people live, using their abilities without making a show of it. It makes me wonder—how many other people around me are quietly extraordinary, blending into the world as if nothing’s out of the ordinary?
Maybe tomorrow I’ll try to learn a bit more. Or maybe I’ll just sit back and enjoy the magic of it all.
